The parish of St. Andrew is currently celebrating its 75th year, having been established
in 1926. On March 4th of that year, 14 men from a small community of Greek immigrants
signed a petition asking permission of the Diocese of Chicago to establish a parish in
South Bend. Permission was granted to do so by the then Bishop, Rt. Rev. Philaretos
Johanides, and it was officially registered by the state of Indiana on July 9, 1926.
During its 75-year history, St. Andrew has been served by a number of dedicated clergy
and since February 2000, Rev. George Konstantopoulos has been the Protopresbyter of the
parish. St. Andrew is the spiritual home to approximately 180 - 200 families and individuals,
coming from a radius of 50+ miles surrounding South Bend.
All activities during the year are focusing on this jubilee milestone as stated in the
motto "celebrating 75 years...while embracing the future." Under the Chairmanship of
Mr. Andrew Manos, a grand banquet will be held on Saturday, September 29th, in the
church community hall, The Good Samaritan Cultural Center. This celebration is open
to all former and current members of the parish, as well as any friends, near or far,
who would be interested in attending. For further information or reservations, you may
call the church office at (574) 277-4688 or email us.
